How do tennis balls work when drying a down comforter?

tennis
ami asked:

I was just reading a question on how to make your down comforter all fluffy again and almost all the answers said that you can put some tennis balls in the dryer to make that happen. So how does that work exactly? Why does this happen? Can you use something else rather than tennis balls? Thank you!

Let These Ping-Pong Tips Take You to the Next Level

Just like any other sport, you need to be mentally prepared for every ping-pong match that you intend to play. It helps if you prepare early on days before the game starts by studying your opponents and finding out what their strengths and weaknesses are. It is not entirely necessary to prepare like that though, as you can determine what their strength and weaknesses are simply by being the “Explorer”.
By playing the Explorer, your tactic is to feel out your opponents by sending him or her many different types of shots. If you wish to be an effective explorer, you are going to have to use many different types of shots, such as loops, counter drives, drives, blocks, pushes, spins, and other types of shots. By doing this, you will be able to adjust quickly and determine what shots are your opponent’s weakness. You should also hit the ball at various speeds and try out different kinds of serves.
As mentioned before, you will be able to find out what your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses are with this method. This is going to allow you to be the aggressor and concentrate on sending your opponent balls and serves that they are weakest against. For example, if you observed that your opponent is weak on his or her backhand, you should try and give him or her more backhands.
There is another strategy you could use, and it entails bringing your game to the table right from the start and adjusting your tactics as you go. This form of gameplay is known as the “dominator” method for obvious reasons.

A dominator won’t show any mercy and they will come to the table throwing their best shots straightaway from the beginning of the game. By doing this, you will force your opponent to adjust to your shots and not the other way around. Although this can be advantageous for you, you have to remember that you also need to adjust to your opponent’s shots as you play. Being unable to make adjustments to your opponents gameplay in many instances will cost you the game.

If you are going to play the dominator, this means that you are going to need to start the game with your best shots and make adjustments that correspond to the responses of your opponent’s shots.

Now, try to figure out whether you are an explorer or a dominator. A good ping pong player will have a mixture of both and one that can adjust to their opponents quickly. So whichever type of ping-pong player you are, you need to take the time and learn how to make adjustments to your opponents play so you can defeat them at their own game.

8 simple steps to regripping a racket

TUtorial - tennis racket getting regripped

The key to playing your best on the court is having a tennis racket that feels consistent in your hand. All of our tennis grips become slippery and wet after playing our best out on the hot courts over time, some faster than others.  Regripping your tennis racket will keep it feeling like a natural extension of your am & prevent it from flying at your opponent during your serve or punishing forehand.

Things You’ll Need:

* Knife
* Tennis Replacement Grip
* Electrical Tape (if no tape come with grip)

Step 1

Choose what type of new grip material you want to use (leather, synthetic, felt, silk….just kidding…etc). If you’re satisfied with the diameter of your current grip, select a new grip material that is similar in thickness to what you have now.

Step 2

Remove the existing grip material, starting at the end nearest the strings. Simply remove the tape holding the grip material in place and unwind like a spool.

Step 3

Pop the staple out that is keeping the grip material at the end of the racket. Save this staple to use again. Please don’t tale the plastic cap on the butt of the racket (unless it’s falling off and you need to fix it).

Step 4

Inspect the new grip material. One end of the material should already be trimmed to a point. Begin wrapping this end at the butt of the racket. Reinsert the staple to hold this end in place.

Step 5

Pull the material tight as you go. Hold the racket in your right hand and the material in your left. Rotate the racket in the direction of the face of a clock.

Step 6

Overlap the material by about 1/4 inch (6 mm) so that the racket can’t be seen through the material.

Step 7

Holding the end of the grip in place with your thumb, trim around the top of the wrapping with a knife so that it is cut off square.

Step 8

Secure the top of the material with electrical tape or included tape from package.

That’s it, now you know how quick and painless switching out you tennis grip can be.Many tennis players don’t even replace the staple if the grip is tacky enough to hold onto the handle of the racket.  This tutorial works no matter how you hold the racket.

Tips to Getting the Right Ping-Pong Table

Ping-pong is a tremendous sport, and it can become truly addicting as a sideline. If you are getting into playing with your household and friends, it might be time to view purchasing your own table tennis table. The convenience of owning your own ping-pong table allows you to play as often as you like, and have tournaments with your family and friends in your own house.

There is a lot of hype surrounding ping-pong tables and all the benefits of having some fantastic one, but a lot of it is all just that hype. Many manufacturers of quality table tennis tables, make a rather huge claims that the products as a justification to charge more. The truth is that your plan is just a hobby or as recreation, then you don’t need all these high-priced units.

Once again going for the low-end models, is the best bet as a first-time buyer. An extensive ping-pong table is not a necessity if you and your family are just starting out. If playing table tennis becomes less a hobby and more of a competitive sport for you, and you decide to start competing, then it might be time to consider buying a higher end table.

If you don’t have the proper amount of area to keep your table out all the time, then you will definitely want to get one that can be folded and moved, preferably with attachment wheels included. Having a table tennis table with wheels, and the folds, makes it incredibly easy to store it and keep it out of the way when it’s not being used.

The table thickness is vitally important because it has an effect on the way your ball bounces. A good standard table sickness is 1 inch, or 25 mm if you use the metric standard. If you’re into competing in tournaments, and you want to practice on a table that is like theirs, then you want to opt for one that’s 25 mm thick.

One more thing that you need to consider about a ping-pong table is its legs. You need to make sure that the legs are strong enough that they can take years of abuse and use. Many of your tables these days have leg levelers which are incredibly helpful when you need to place the table on ground that isn’t even.

The brand isn’t that important. If you’re a serious tournament ping-pong player, then you probably want to go for a common brand that is used in tournaments, as this will give you the feel of these tables.

The last thing that you want to look for is to make sure that the table is flat. You can see any warps or bends in the surface by putting your eye at table level and looking at it across the flat of the surface. There should not be any rough spots in the surface of the table. The action of the ball on the table is drastically influenced by these factors. It can be really frustrating to receive a bounce that is uneven.

These are the qualities that you need to look at when choosing a ping-pong table.Being aware of these things will help you to find the table that will work best for you.Remember that choosing the expensive model isn’t always the best way to go. Find what is appropriate for you, not something that is overly extravagant that you don’t need.

The Keys to Choosing a Good Tennis Net

The process of choosing tennis nets is dependent upon various factors such as the kind of court you have, how often you play, and the likes.  Durability and quality is a must when hunting around for tennis nets, most especially if you play frequently or if the playing season is long.

Polyethylene, placed at the ends of two posts, is the favorite material used by manufacturers of tennis nets.  Nettings also have additional parts like cables, dowels, bands, among a few.  More often than not, tennis grids are classified in accordance with how they are used—for recreational purposes, for professional matches, as well as for games that require nettings that are portable.  The right purchasing decision is also dependent upon how large the court is and the kind of tennis the players participate in.

There are different classes of tennis nets to choose from, the most common being the ones for leisure and the ones for challenge.  Mesh for recreation is normally made from intertwined material e.g. polyethylene, more often than not, with the width of 2.5 millimeters; a netting created for the purpose of competition is also made out of interlinked textile, generally polyethylene, measuring 3.6 millimeters in terms of width.

You will notice that most tennis nets are braided and comprised of the material: polyethylene.  The reason behind the braiding process is that it helps make the mesh stronger.   As for polyethylene, it may be considered the best material for nettings because of how well it can withstand various weather conditions.

Recreational nettings and mesh for competitions are not the only kinds available in the market.  Nowadays, there are also ones that are called portable tennis nets because they can be transferred from place to place, thus, making it more convenient for players.  There are also nettings with adjustable dimensions, to be specific, those wherein the height may be changed which makes them apt for players of each and every age.   An example is that youngsters may need the grid measure lower than that of the netting of older players.

When deciding on which tennis nets to buy, there are some pointers to apply.  First, the material that makes up the tennis grid should be durable enough to withstand changes in the weather.  Mildew resistance should also be present.  Another tip on buying nettings is to ensure that the product you bring home has the correct dimensions, especially if it will be used for formal matches.  The accepted measurement is usually three feet high at the middle.

Other tips that should be applied, most especially for ones that are portable, is to buy a product that can stand firm and one that will not scratch your floors.  Nettings that are encased in steel are most of the time unyielding even to the strongest wind.  Conversely, portable tennis nets with rubber bottoms will help you say no to floor abrasions, thus leaving your floors still with a polished look.

Once you have procured tennis nets, you also have to know how to make them last longer.  See to it that they are properly installed and supported well by their posts.  Remember as well that no matter how durable your tennis nets are, they cannot always take ugly weather, so it is necessary for you to uninstall them and store them until better weather resumes.
